Georgia Peach Cocktail (Fresh Peach Purée)

This is a shaken peach cocktail built on fresh purée, vodka, orange liqueur, lemon juice, and simple syrup — ready in 10 minutes with no special skills required. Fresh peaches are the whole point here, so it’s worth making when they’re actually in season and taste like something. If you’ve got ripe peaches sitting on the counter and want a single drink that comes together fast, this is it.

Why this recipe works

Two things make this drink work. First, straining the peach purée through a fine mesh sieve removes the fibrous pulp that would otherwise make the cocktail cloudy and slightly gritty — you get clean peach flavor without the texture. Second, shaking hard for a full 15–20 seconds does more than chill the drink; it emulsifies the purée with the liquids so everything stays combined instead of separating in the glass. The lemon juice keeps the sweetness honest — without it, the combination of ripe peach, simple syrup, and orange liqueur tips into cloying territory fast.

Smart swaps

  • Orange liqueur: Cointreau is drier and lets the peach come forward more; Grand Marnier adds a slight oak note from the brandy base. Either works, but Cointreau is the better call if your peaches are very sweet.
  • Simple syrup: If you don’t have any made, dissolve one teaspoon of sugar in one teaspoon of warm water and stir until clear — takes about 30 seconds and gets you close enough for a single drink.
  • Orange bitters: Genuinely optional. Skip the garnish too — not worth the extra dish — but the bitters do add a small amount of complexity if you have them open already.
  • Vodka: The recipe calls for a smooth, neutral vodka like Tito’s or Ketel One. A heavily flavored or low-quality vodka will compete with the peach rather than support it.

What can go wrong

  • Purée is too watery: Overripe or very juicy peaches can produce a thin purée that throws off the balance of the drink. Strain it well and, if it looks more like juice than purée, reduce the simple syrup by half to compensate.
  • Drink tastes flat or muted: This usually means the shaker wasn’t cold enough or you didn’t shake long enough. Start with ice-cold ingredients and shake until the outside of the shaker is uncomfortably cold to hold — that’s your cue it’s ready.
  • Too sweet with no brightness: If your peaches are very ripe and sweet, the lemon juice becomes even more important. Taste the purée before building the drink and add an extra small squeeze of lemon if needed.
  • Drink separates in the glass: Purée-based cocktails settle quickly. Serve immediately after straining — don’t let it sit on the counter while you sort out garnishes.
  • Glass isn’t cold enough: A warm glass heats the drink within a minute or two. If you’re skipping the freezer step, at minimum fill the glass with ice water for the full time you’re prepping and shaking, then dump it right before you pour.

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Hawthorne strainer
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Jigger
  • Blender (for peach purée)
  • Chilled coupe or Martini glass

Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka use a clean, neutral vodka, 60ml
  • 1 oz peach purée fresh, ripe peaches blended and strained. Can substitute with high-quality store-bought purée, 30ml
  • 1 oz orange liqueur such as Cointreau or Grand Marnier, 30ml
  • ½ oz fresh lemon juice freshly squeezed for optimal brightness, 15ml
  • ½ oz simple syrup 1:1 ratio cane sugar and water, dissolved, 15ml
  • 1 dash orange bitters optional, for added depth
  • ice for shaking
  • 1 slice fresh peach for garnish

Instructions

  • Prepare the Peach Purée: If making from scratch, skin and pit 1 ripe peach, puree it in a blender, and strain through a fine mesh sieve. This will yield about 1 oz (30ml) of smooth purée with bright aroma and golden color.
    1 oz peach purée
  • Chill Your Glass: Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer, or fill with ice water while preparing the drink to ensure optimal serving temperature.
  • Combine Your Ingredients: In a cocktail shaker, add vodka, peach purée, orange liqueur, lemon juice, simple syrup, and orange bitters (if using). Fill the shaker with ice.
2 oz vodka, 1 oz peach purée, 1 oz orange liqueur, 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice, 1/2 oz simple syrup, 1 dash orange bitters, ice
  • Shake Vigorously: Shake for 15–20 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and the drink is thoroughly chilled and emulsified.
  • Strain and Serve: Double strain into your chilled glass by pouring through a Hawthorne strainer held over the shaker and a fine mesh strainer held over the glass. This removes both ice shards and any remaining pulp for a silky-smooth texture.
  • Garnish Elegantly: Float a fresh peach slice on the surface or secure it to the rim with a mini clothespin for visual elegance and aromatic appeal.

Notes

Storage: Peach purée keeps in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days, or freeze in ice cube trays for up to 3 months. Thaw before using.
Make-Ahead: Pre-batch the purée and measure ingredients into individual containers so you only need to shake and serve at party time.
Substitutions: Swap vodka for white rum for a tropical twist, or use peach schnapps instead of vodka and halve the simple syrup for a lower-proof version. Frozen peaches (thawed and drained) work nearly as well as fresh when peaches are out of season — avoid canned peaches packed in syrup.
Pro Tip: Shake hard for a full 15–20 seconds. Under-shaking leaves the purée separated from the spirits — you want the outside of the shaker frosty cold and the drink fully emulsified.
Serving Suggestion: Add a splash of dry Prosecco on top for a bubbly Peach Bellini variation. For a lower-proof version, replace vodka with peach schnapps and reduce the liqueur to balance sweetness.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make the peach purée ahead of time?

Yes — you can make it up to two days ahead and keep it in a sealed container in the fridge. Give it a quick stir before measuring, since it can settle slightly.

Do I need a cocktail shaker, or can I use something else?

A proper cocktail shaker makes this easier, but a large mason jar with a tight lid works fine. Just make sure it seals securely before you shake.

Can I scale this up to make a batch for a group?

You can multiply the ingredients and stir everything together in a pitcher — except don’t add ice to the pitcher itself. Shake each drink individually over ice, or pour servings over ice in glasses, to keep the texture right.

My peaches aren’t very ripe. Will this still taste good?

Underripe peaches produce a pale, slightly bland purée that won’t carry the drink. If that’s what you have, use thawed frozen peaches instead — they’re picked at peak ripeness and will give you better flavor than a hard fresh peach.

Is there a way to make this without alcohol?

Replace the vodka with sparkling water or white grape juice and swap the orange liqueur for a tablespoon of fresh orange juice plus a small extra squeeze of lemon. It won’t taste identical, but the peach flavor still comes through clearly.
