Notes
Storage: Pre-batch the full liquid mixture (rums, syrups, juices, bitters, grenadine) up to 24 hours ahead in a sealed jar in the fridge. Do not add ice to the batch — shake or stir individual servings over ice just before serving.Make-Ahead: Squeeze lime and orange juice up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerate; flavour drops off noticeably past that window.Substitution: No falernum? Mix simple syrup with a pinch of ground clove and a few drops of almond extract as a stand-in.Lower Proof Option: Omit the 151-proof rum and replace with an extra ½ oz dark rum for a less potent but still balanced cocktail.Pro Tip: Use crushed ice in the serving glass, not cubed — it dilutes at the correct rate and tempers the overproof rum's heat for a smoother drinking experience.
