Instructions
Using a food processor, pulse the Oreo cookies until they're finely crushed, resembling the texture of soil. This should take about 2-3 minutes.
1 package Oreo cookies
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy, approximately 3-4 minutes.
1/2 cup unsalted butter, 8 oz cream cheese, 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 tsp vanilla extract
In a separate bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and milk until the mixture thickens, which takes about 2 minutes. Make sure there are no lumps.
Gently fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture in two additions until just incorporated. Then fold in the prepared chocolate pudding in three additions, using a rubber spatula and sweeping from the bottom of the bowl to the top. Stop as soon as no streaks remain — overmixing will deflate the filling.
1 container whipped topping
To assemble, in a 9×13-inch (33×23cm) dish, spread half the crushed Oreos in an even layer across the bottom. Spread all of the pudding mixture evenly over the cookies, then top with the remaining crushed Oreos in an even layer.
1 package Oreo cookies
Refrigerate the assembled dirt cake for at least one hour to set before serving. For added fun, garnish with gummy worms right before serving.

Notes
Storage: Cover tightly and refrigerate for up to 3 days. The Oreo layers soften progressively, so days 1-2 have the best texture.Freezer: Freeze in an airtight container for up to 4 weeks. Thaw overnight in the fridge and add a fresh layer of crushed Oreos on top before serving.Make-Ahead: Assemble the night before and refrigerate overnight for deeper flavour and a firmer set — skip the gummy worms until just before serving.Substitution: Swap Cool Whip for 2 cups of homemade whipped cream stabilised with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, but serve the same day as it breaks down faster.Pro Tip: Fold the pudding into the cream cheese mixture in three additions rather than all at once — this keeps the filling light and airy instead of dense.
