I whipped up a healthy alternative to my favourite chocolate mousse today. It’s made of banana and avocado that make the texture smooth when blended well. Check out this healthy chocolate mousse that you’ll love just as I do.
Note: Make sure your banana and avocado are very ripe, as this will improve the flavour of the mousse enormously.
Healthy, Velvety, Smooth Chocolate Mousse
Print RecipeIngredients
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1 ripe banana
- 2 (Medjool) dates, soaked until soft
- 1/4 cup of raw cacao powder
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract or pods from 1 fresh vanilla bean
- A pinch of salt, to enhance the flavour
- Optional extras for the topping: mixed berries, walnuts, sliced almonds, mulberries, pumpkin seeds, coconut flakes or just anything you prefer!
Instructions
- Cut the avocado in half and remove the seed. Scoop the flesh in the bowl of the food processor or a powerful highspeed blender.
- Add the skinned banana and process or blend until smooth and creamy.
- Add the dates, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, salt, and blend again.
- If you want to make a lighter mousse, add a splash of water, coconut water or almond milk.
- Spoon the mixture in a bowl and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
- Serve alone or with a great topping. I used some walnuts, almonds and pumpkin seeds for a lovely crunch and added berries to give the mousse a great fruity twang.
- Enjoy your indulgence!
